Charles, Clegg to launch Royal Commission on Social Mobility

Sadly I have to announce the withdrawal of this morning’s exclusive announcement that Church Action on Poverty has been appointed to provide the Secretariat to the Royal Commission on Social Mobility, which was to have been launched by Prince Charles and Nick Clegg this Tuesday.

The establishment of the Commission was blocked at midday today, 1 April, by a Privvy Council ruling that commoners were not allowed to serve on Royal Commissions.

What’s a commoner? In this age of the Big Society we should all be pulling together side by side!
